R.I.P Chris Bailey
(31 May 1950 - 4 April 2013)
The ARIA community would like to express its sadness at the passing of musician and songwriter Chris Bailey on 4 April 2013, at the age of 62.
Bailey was originally a member of The Angels between 1977 and 1982, contributing bass to some of the band’s most well-known albums including The Angels (1977), Face To Face (1978), No Exit (1979), Dark Room (1980) and Night Attack (1981).
Prior to his joining The Angels, Bailey was the leader of Adelaide bands Red Angel Panic and HeadBand, as well as the host of Solid Air, a ABC-TV music show.
Following his departure from The Angels, Bailey was one of the founding members of GANGgajang, along with former Angels band mate Buzz Bidstrup; remaining a member of the band ever since. Through the years Bailey also played with the likes of Jimmy Barnes and Jimmy Little amongst many others.
In recent years Bailey had performed in various line-ups of The Angels, including a reunion of the 1977-1981 line-up. With new vocalist Dave Gleeson, The Angels released the album Take It To The Streets in August 2012.
A tribute concert will be held at the Thebarton Theatre in Adelaide on April 17.
Our sincere condolences go to the family, friends and fans of Chris Bailey.
