Get to know the Sydney DJ.
DJ Nicky G (Nicky Gibson) started her career as a TV presenter in Brisbane as a 14-year-old on Channel 7's "Wombat" program with Agro the puppet. Small acting jobs on some of Australia’s popular soaps followed, before embarking on a singing career.
Nicky then wanted to follow her passion in music as a singer/songwriter. She recorded several songs and released three singles and video clips. Nicky knew her future was in music and wanted to be involved and entertain people as a career. After doing the hard yards as a singer, she was then introduced to the world of DJing and producing. Soon it was apparent that she loved being behind the decks and Sydney soon had one of its first female RnB/Dance DJs hit the scene.
DJ Nicky G has been the pioneer of Australian female DJs in Australia, at a time when it was only a boys club. Nicky raised a few eyebrows and made her mark in the club scene in the 90s when females in the industry were in its early years.
Her selection of music and flawless mixing has electrified crowds for many years with her ability to read any crowd a unique talent. Nothing is pre-planned as the music is mixed according to the audience on the night, which is always different and never predictable.
A blonde female DJ playing RnB music was a first for the industry. It was a tough challenge for anyone let alone a young girl DJ from Brisbane. She proved that she could hold her own in any club, often doing 8-hour sets with the crowds leaving on a high at the end of the night.
It didn't take long for Nicky to establish herself in Sydney’s nightclub scene and for her DJ career to really take off, making all those years of hard work worthwhile.
Nicky has worked in Sydney's and Melbourne's nightclub scene for many years now, carving out her market. Playing in Sydney's super clubs of the 90s and early 2000s, she regularly played to over a thousand people each night, week in, week out. Her smooth mix of RnB blended with dance and commercial tunes controlled the night from start to finish. These days Nicky has been scouted to play many private parties, corporate events, fashion shows and product launches alongside her club gigs.
With her confidence and experience as an all-round entertainer, DJ Nicky G can not only jump the decks, she can also host events and conduct interviews with celebrities who visit the nightclubs. Nicky has featured in many magazines and newspapers over the years showcasing what females can do in the music and DJ industries.
DJ Nicky G has worked with many live music artists, both nationally and internationally and DJ'd alongside some of Australia's leading names.
Her dedication to her career as a DJ has seen Nicky train many young and upcoming DJs, giving them the start, she found so elusive.
