Beabadoobee’s big debut

London’s Beabadoobee storms onto the ARIA Albums Chart, debuting at #1 with “Pylon”, while Sydney’s C.O.F.F.I.N. score a top 10 debut on the Albums Chart and a #1 on the Australian Albums Chart.

“Pylon” is the fourth studio album and first top five result from Filipino-born Beabadoobee: she reached #19 in 2022 with “Beatopia” and #6 in 2024 with “This Is How Tomorrow Moves”. “Pylon” is also #1 on the Vinyl Chart.

Miley is new at #2 on the Albums Chart and #3 on the Vinyl Chart with “Bass Persuades”, the first album released under her mononym. Miley Cyrus has previously released nine albums under her full name. Eight of her albums have landed in the top 10, with “Breakout” reaching #1 in 2008, “Bangerz” hitting the top spot in 2013 and “Endless Summer Vacation” doing the same in 2023. She also scored one top 10 album as Hannah Montana. 

“Out In Oslo”, the sixth studio album from Sydney punk rock band C.O.F.F.I.N., debuts at #8. Until now their best chart performer was “Australia Stops”, which peaked at #47 in 2023 (it reached #28 on the UK albums chart). The band’s name is a backronym of Children of Finland Fighting in Norway. The album is also #4 on the Vinyl Chart.

Lizzy McAlpine’s “Angel” arrives at #10. The Pennsylvania-born singer climbed to #26 in 2024 with “Older”. 

American country singer Riley Green is new at #14 with “That’s Just Me”. It’s his fourth studio album and first time on the ARIA chart. 

Big Noter’s “Songs In The Key Of Wrestling” is new at #30 on the Albums Chart, #2 on the Australian Albums Chart and #6 on the Vinyl Chart. Big Noter is rapper, writer, author and actor Briggs’ punk band and also includes Steve Smith, Leigh Davies and Craig Strain. The album features Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Idles’ Joe Talbot. 

On the Singles Chart, Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” rules for the 15th non-consecutive week. Only eight songs have hit #1 this year: Olivia Dean’s “Man I Need” leads the pack with 18 weeks on top. 

Adela lands in the top 10 for the first time with two tracks: “Nicole Kidman” is up from #14 to #4 and “Ain’t In LA” rises from #13 to #7. The actor name-checked in the former has visited the top 50 twice, both in 2001: she reached #10 with her Ewan McGregor duet “Come What Way” then got to #8 with the Robbie Williams collaboration “Somethin’ Stupid”. 

“Movin’ To The Sun” by Hugel, Imael Angel and Ultra Nate jumps from #47 to #27. One of the biggest hits of the recent UK summer, it’s the first chart appearance for French producer Hugel and Hungarian producer Imael Angel. For American singer Ultra Nate, it’s her first hit here in almost three decades: she reached #31 in 1997 with “Free” and #3 in 1998 with “If You Could Read My Mind”, a collaboration with Amber and Jocelyn Enriquez. 

Last week’s tribute concert in Melbourne sends the 40th anniversary edition of John Farnham’s “Whispering Jack” to #1 on the On Replay Albums Chart and #2 on the Vinyl Chart. The third best-selling album of all time in Australia, “Whispering Jack” spent 25 weeks at #1 on the main albums chart in 1986-87, the longest run by any Australian album. In March 1987, it won Album of the Year at the first ARIA Awards. The best-selling album ever here is Meatloaf’s “Bat Out Of Hell”, followed by Shania Twain’s “Come On Over”.

The Killers’ “Mr Brightside” holds at #1 on the On Replay Singles Chart.
