Ukraine wins the 2016 final with ‘1944’.
Australia’s Dami Im took out second place in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest final, held on 14 May in Stockholm, Sweden.
Performing ‘Sound Of Silence’, the 2013 X Factor Australia winner was beaten by 23 points by Ukraine’s Jamala and her track ‘1944’.
This year’s competition used a new voting system, under which points were awarded partly by juries from member countries and partly by a public telephone vote. Im lead the competition after the announcement of the jury-issued points. It was only after the announcement of the results of the home viewer votes that Ukraine moved into the lead.
Russia’s Sergey Lazarev came third with the track ‘You Are the Only One’.
In addition to the second placing, DNA Songs, aka Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci, won the Composers Award for ‘Sound Of Silence’ at Eurovision’s Marcel Bezençon Awards.
