Slim Shady is dead, long live Slim Shady

Eminem charges onto the ARIA Albums Chart this week at with The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) debuting at #1; while Sydney hardcore punk band SPEED land at #10 with their debut studio album, Only One Mode. 

This is Eminem’s 11th chart-topper here, reaching back to The Marshall Mathers LP in 2000, and his 10th to debut at #1. All up, he has spent 31 weeks at #1; his biggest album so far was Recovery, which was on top for nine weeks in 2010. 

Eminem is now tied with U2 in fifth place on the list of artists with the most #1 albums: Madonna is fourth with 12, Taylor Swift is third with 23, the Beatles are second with 14 and Jimmy Barnes is on top with 15. 

Elsewhere, American singer-songwriter Clairo is new at #4 with Charm, her first top 50 entrant; while Nothing To Show by Complete debuts at #28. It’s the Aussie hip-hop star’s second charter: Death Rattle hit #12 in 2019.  

Byron Bay’s metalcore band In Hearts Wake break into the top 50 at #49, with their sixth album Incarnation. All of their albums so far have charted: Divinationreached #27 in 2012, Earthwalker got to #5 in 2014, Skydancer peaked at #2 in 2015, Ark hit #3 in 2017 and Kallyuga went to #3 in 2020. 

On the Singles Chart, it’s three weeks in a row at #1 for Shaboozey’s double-platinum A Bar Song (Tipsy), the second independent single to reach #1 on the Singles Chart this year after Tommy Richman’s MILLION DOLLAR BABY hit the chart as an indie release in May.

Eminem’s recent #1 hit Houdini rebounds from #10 to #6. Another 13 tracks from his new album land in the top 50 singles chart.
