Moves for Sam Smith, Maroon 5, Lizzo and more!
Tones And I has broken the record for most weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart by an Australian artist as she takes out her tenth consecutive week in the top spot with ‘Dance Monkey’.
The second single by singer-songwriter Toni Watson breaks the record previously held by Sydney group Justice Crew, who spent nine weeks at #1 in 2014 with ‘Que Sera’. As well as breaking the Australian record for most weeks at #1, Tones And I this week equals the record for most weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart by a female solo act. The record is also currently held by Sandi Thom’s ‘I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)’ (2006) and Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’ (1992/93). The current record for most weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart is Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’. It spent 15 non-consecutive weeks at #1 in 2017.
Moving up one spot in its eleventh week on the chart, Sam Smith’s ‘How Do You Sleep?’ cracks the Top Ten for the first time. The track becomes the British singer-songwriter’s sixth Top Ten single. Smith’s first Top Ten was with ‘Stay With Me’ (#5 Jun. ’14).
After debuting at #32 last week, Maroon 5’s ‘Memories’ jumps up 20 spots in its second week in the Top 50. The American group last appeared in the Top Ten with ‘Girls Like You’ (#2 Jun. ’18).
As it hits its 22nd week in the Top 50, ‘Truth Hurts’ by Lizzo climbs up three spots to claim a new peak at #15. ‘Good As Hell’, the American star’s other current chart entry, has jumped seven spots this week to be just below ‘Truth Hurts’ at #16.
In its second week in the Top 50, ‘Ride It’ by Regard has moved up 14 spots to a new peak of #28.
This week’s chat also features new peaks for blackbear’s ‘Hot Girl Bummer’ (#33) and Jonas Brothers’ ‘Only Human’ (#38).
#20: Flume Feat. Vera Blue ‘Rushing Back’ – Flume takes out his second Top 50 entry for 2019 with the Vera Blue-featured track ‘Rushing Back’. Earlier in the year, the multi-ARIA-winning producer charted with his collaboration with London Grammar, ‘Let You Know’ (#31 Jun. ’19).
#48: Freya Ridings ‘Castles’ – English singer-songwriter Freya Ridings makes her Top 50 debut with ‘Castles’. The track comes from Ridings’ self-titled debut album, which was released in July of this year. She previously scored a Top Ten hit in the UK with ‘Lost Without You’.
