Debuts for Asking Alexandria, Birdy, The Bennies and more!

Another week and another debut at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. This time, former One Direction member Zayn Malik has taken out the top spot with his debut solo album Mind Of Mine (see below).

After four weeks at #4, Adele’s 25 returns to #2 for a sixth week.

Moving up four spots to #9, Taylor Swift’s 1989 picks up a 67th week in the top ten.

On the back of the success of their cover of Simon & Garfunel’s ‘The Sound Of Silence’ (#15 this week), Disturbed’s Immortalized has moved up six spots to #13.

Other moves up the chart come include Sia’s This Is Acting (up four to #12), Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface (up five to #24), Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour (up 14 to #28), The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness (up five to #32) and Icehouse’s White Heat: 30 Hits (up 13 to #35).

There’s re-entries this week for Melissa Etheridge’s This Is M.E. (#34) and Halsey’s Badlands (#42).

Debuts:

#1: Zayn ‘Mind Of Mine’ – The debut album from former One Direction member Zayn Malik debuts at #1 on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart. Mind Of Mine features the singles ‘Pillowtalk’ (#1 Feb. ’16), ‘It’s You’ (#38 Mar. ’16) and ‘Like I Would’ (#31 Mar. ’16). As a member of One Direction, Mailk topped the Albums Chart with Up All Night (#1 Apr. ’12), Take Me Home (#1 Nov. ’12), Midnight Memories (#1 Dec. 13) and Four (#1 Nov. ’14).

#4: Asking Alexandria ‘The Black’ – English metalcore band Asking Alexandria pick up their first top ten appearance courtesy of fourth album The Black. It’s their third album to chart in the top 50, following on from From Death To Destiny (#11 Aug. ’13) and Reckless And Relentless (#30 Apr. ’11).

#10: Birdy ‘Beautiful Lies’ – Album three from Birdy. It continues the English singer-songwriter’s run of top ten albums that began with Birdy (#1 Sept. ’12) and Fire Within (#5 Oct. ’13).

#15: Amon Amarth ‘Jomsviking’ – Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth pick up their first ever appearance in the top 50 with Jomsviking. It’s the band’s tenth studio album, having formed in 1988 and released their debut album, Once Sent From The Golden Hall, in 1998.

#17: Joe Bonamassa ‘Blues Of Desperation’ – American blues rocker Joe Bonamassa makes his Albums Chart debut with Blues Of Desperation. It’s his twelfth studio album. The release coincides with Bonamassa’s appearance at Bluesfest last weekend.

#20: Planetshakers ‘Momentum (Live In Manila)’ – Worship group Planetshakers pick up their fourth chart appearance with Momentum (Live In Manila). They’ve previously charted with Endless Praise (#30 Mar. ‘14), This Is Our Time (Live) (#30 Oct. ’14) and #Let's Go (#28 Sept. ’15).

#40: The Bennies ‘Wisdom Machine’ – Melbourne band make their ARIA Charts debut courtesy of third album, Wisdom Machine. It’s the follow-up to 2013's Rainbows In Space. The band are currently touring nationally to the album’s release.

#46: Kiiara ‘Low Kii Savage’ – The debut EP from American artist Kiiara. The six-track Low Kii Savage features the single ‘Gold’ (#5 Feb. ’16).
