Each week, ARIA highlights one of the DJs that contributes to the Top 50 Club Tracks Chart.

DJ/producer Generik (a.k.a Tyson O’Brien) has returned home to Australia after a four-year stint of living in the US, as well as producing tracks galore and playing some of America’s biggest nightclubs.

During 2020, Generik spent ten weeks inside the Top Ten of the Aria Buzz Chart with his collabs with McSeedy (‘El Miana’) and Fources (‘Need U’).

Generik has his own record label You Do You which now has over 15 releases to its catalogue. Featuring house music talent from all over the globe, the label also hosts You Do You parties.

Generik has been creating waves with his residencies at Ushuaia and Pacha in Ibiza, Hakkasan and Omnia Nightclub in Las Vegas and Bali.

Generik has previously claimed ARIA Club Chart #1s with ‘The Weekend (feat. Nicky Van She)’, and ‘Late at Night’, ‘So High’ and ‘Be There’ featuring the silky vocals of A*M*E.

1.  Tell us about your style of music?

I love house music. Fun and happy with pure vibes and energy.

2.  What makes a set by you unique?

I’ve developed friendships with many artists who give tonnes of unreleased tunes as well as playing with my flair and amazing hair 

3.  What's your guaranteed floor-filler?

I found this bootleg of Rihanna's 'Bitch Better Have My Money' by David Lowe. It NEVER fails! David is a super talented producer I love his tunes. 

4.  You have to step away from the booth for a break, what's your go-to long song?

DJ Koze 'Pick Up. A Solid'. 10mins should give plenty of time have a drink at the bar. 

5.  What would be your ultimate music collaboration?

I’ve always admired Jamie Jones, his sets are always incredible, his label Hot Creations is a massive inspiration and his tune slap! 

6.  What is the most rewarding part of being a DJ?

Seeing smiling faces, happy people, amazing & awful dancing and plenty of laughs.

7.  Can you share any tips for people who want to become a DJ?

Find YOUR vibe, don’t just do what is cool atm. Find what you’re into and run with it! Your taste is always going to grow and change so find your vibe and go for it.
