The 27th Annual ARIA Awards Will Shine On December 1, 2013

Following on from the triumphant success of the 2012 ARIA Awards, the most anticipated night on the Australian music industry calendar, the 27th Annual ARIA Awards is set to take place on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Event Centre at The Star, Sydney.

The 27th Annual ARIA Awards will return to the Nine Networks' digital channel GO! for the broadcast of the ceremony, including all the rock ‘n' roll festivities from the David Jones red carpet.

Denis Handlin AM, ARIA Chairman and Chairman & CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia said: "ARIA is delighted to announce The Star as the new home of Australian music's biggest night – the 27th Annual ARIA Awards. I'd also like to acknowledge the continued support of the Nine Network and the NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, who are passionate supporters of our local music industry. We look forward to partnering with them again in 2013 as we celebrate a truly remarkable year in Australian music."

The winners of the ARIA Fine Arts and Artisan Awards will be announced at the 2013 ARIA Nominations event on Tuesday, October 15 at the Art Gallery of NSW.

As well as being the year that the ARIA Charts celebrated their 30th anniversary, 2013 has delivered an extraordinary year for Australian music, including ten number #1 Australian albums, a feat not achieved since 2004. With so much diverse talent to be proud of, the 27th ARIA Awards, featuring stellar live performances, unforgettable collaborations and special guest appearances, will be a night to commemorate and recognise these achievements. 2013 has also seen a 50% increase on 2012 in the number of artists and recordings nominated for ARIA Awards by ARIA Members.

ARIA CEO, Dan Rosen said: "We're thrilled to partner with The Star to host this year's event. After 27 years the ARIA Awards are still the country's biggest celebration of Australian music and the success of our artists in 2013 means we have all the ingredients to make it one of our biggest ARIAs ever.

There has been a host of #1 Albums on the ARIA Charts, from established artists such as Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Bernard Fanning, Bliss n Eso and Birds of Tokyo, to newcomers like Flume and RÜFÜS. These achievements, combined with iconic live performances and collaborations, as well as a very special Hall of Fame induction, ensures we are in for an unforgettable night at The Star on Sunday 1st December."

Frederic Luvisutto, Managing Director, The Star said: "It's an honour to welcome the Australian Music Industry to The Star, our new state of the art Event Centre is the perfect home for the ARIA Awards. With The Star offering a range of world class facilities, accommodation, restaurants and after party venues, the 2013 ARIA Awards promises to be the music event of the year."

ARIA and the NSW Government, through Destination NSW, are pleased to announce the return of ARIA WEEK again in 2013, after the success of last year's program. ARIA WEEK will host a broad and eclectic range of showcases, curated gigs, and conferences, including the popular ARIA Masterclass, bringing the music industry together and offering the community unprecedented access to Australian music in the lead-up to the main event. The full ARIA WEEK schedule will be released in the coming weeks.

Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris, said: "The NSW Government is proud to support the ARIA Awards and ARIA WEEK held in Sydney, the home of the Australian Music Industry. Last year, more than 3,000 visitors from overseas, interstate and intrastate came specifically to the Harbour City for the ARIA Awards and ARIA Week, injecting $1.4 million into the NSW economy. NSW dominates the recorded music and venue-based live music industry in Australia and this year's growing ARIA WEEK program and ARIA Awards will further cement Sydney's reputation as the creative industries hub of the Asia-Pacific."

Over 100,000 public votes were cast in the lead up to the 2012 ARIA Awards, and Australian music fans will once again have the chance to have their say in who takes home an ARIA Award, with four publicly voted awards, including 'Song Of The Year', 'Best International Artist', 'Best Australian Live Act' and 'Best Video'. Voting for these categories opens on Tuesday, October 15.

ARIA is thrilled to welcome Rdio on board in 2013 as the ARIA Awards official streaming partner andalso welcomes back PPCA as the proud sponsor of the ‘Breakthrough Artist' ARIA Award for the third consecutive year, continuing their support of Australia's emerging artists.
