KPop Demon Hunters approaches a very exclusive club

Ocean Alley make it three for three

The soundtrack to Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters returns to #1 for its ninth non-consecutive week on top of the ARIA Albums Chart, while Ocean Alley score their third consecutive #3.

KPop Demon Hunters now matches the nine-week run at #1 recorded by the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack in 1997. Since the ARIA charts started in 1983, only four soundtracks have spent more weeks at #1: the Australian cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar ruled for 10 weeks in 1992 and Titanic (1998), Moulin Rouge (2001) and A Star Is Born (2018) were on top for 11 weeks each.

Sydney’s Ocean Alley steps onto the Albums Chart at #3 with their fifth studio album, Love Balloon. They reached #11 in 2018 with Chiaroscuro, #3 in 2020 with Lonely Diamond and #3 in 2022 with Low Altitude Living.

Cardi B returns with her second studio album, Am I The Drama?, new at #8. Collaborators on the album include Selena Gomez, Kehlani, Tyla, Summer Walker and Janet Jackson. Her debut, Invasion Of Privacy, got to #5 in 2018.

Nine Inch Nails land at #10 with the soundtrack to TRON: Ares. It’s the American rock band’s sixth top 10 album here, following The Fragile (#2 in 1999), With Teeth (#10 in 2005), Year Zero (#5 in 2007), Hesitation Marks (#3 in 2013) and Bad Witch (#9 in 2018). Daft Punk’s soundtrack to TRON: Legacy peaked at #17 in 2011.

Lola Young’s I’m Only Fucking Myself is new at #12. It’s her third album and first to chart here. Lead track One Thing peaked at #43 earlier this year.

Brisbane band Platonic Sex’s debut album Face To The Flywire arrives at #31.

KPop Demon Hunters’ lead track Golden holds at #1 on the Singles Chart also for the ninth week in a row. Three more weeks in the penthouse and Golden will tie Pharrell Williams’ 2014 hit Happy from Despicable Me 2 as the longest running #1 from an animated movie.

SZA retains the top spot on the On Replay Albums Chart with SOS, and Teddy Swims again rules the On Replay Singles Chart with Lose Control.
