Debuts for The Teskey Brothers, Northlane, Drake and more!
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran notches up his fourth week at #1 in the ARIA Albums Chart with his fourth studio album, No.6 Collaborations Project. Sheeran has now spent a combined 40 weeks at #1 on the Albums Chart.
With the release of their back catalogue to digital services for the first time and the announcement that their first studio album in 13 years, Fear Inoculum, will be released at the end of August, American band Tool take five places in this week’s Top 50. The highest-placed album, Ænima, has returned to #6, the position it debuted at in October 1996. Former #1s Lateralus and 10,000 Days are at #8 and #9, respectively. The band’s debut album, 1992’s Undertow, has hit the Top 50 for the first time at #21, while early EP Opiate has debuted at #43.
Shawn Mendes’ self-titled third album has returned to the Top 50 this week at #29. This week, the Canadian singer-songwriter celebrated his 21st birthday.
#2: The Teskey Brothers ‘Run Home Slow’ – Melbourne band The Teskey Brothers hit the Top Ten on the ARIA Albums Chart for the first time with Run Home Slow. The quartet’s second studio album comes two years on from their debut, Half Mile Harvest (#18 Jun. ’17), which sits at #27 this week. Following dates in the US and Europe, The Teskey Brothers return to Australia in November for a national tour.
#3: Northlane ‘Alien’ – Northlane score a fourth Top Ten entry with Alien. The Sydney metalcore band’s fifth studio album is the follow-up to Mesmer (#3 Apr. ’17). Northlane previously topped the Albums Chart with Node (#1 Aug. ’15).
#7: Drake ‘Care Package’ – Drake releases his first compilation, Care Package. The album includes tracks the Canadian rapper recorded between 2010 and 2016 that weren’t previously commercially available. Drake also debuted in the Top 50 earlier in the year with the re-release 2009 mixtape So Far Gone (#34 Feb. ’19).
#14: Holy Holy ‘My Own Pool Of Light’ – Aussie duo Holy Holy notch up their third Top 50 entry with My Own Pool Of Light. Coming just over two years on from Paint (#7 Mar. ’17), the album is the third from the act featuring guitarist Oscar Dawson and vocalist Timothy Carroll. Holy Holy will be touring Australia in support of the album between September and November.
#21: Tool ‘Undertow’ – With their catalogue hitting digital services for the first time Tool make their Top 50 debut with Undertow and Opiate. The band’s debut album, Undertow originally peaked at #89 in October 1994. At #43, Opiate, an EP released in 1992, is making its Top 100 debut.
#31: Skillet ‘Victorious’ – American rock band Skillet take out their second chart entry with Victorious. The quartet’s tenth album comes three years on from their only other chart entry, Unleashed (#7 Aug. ’16).
#36: Soundtrack ‘Descendants 3’ – The soundtrack to the third installment of Disney’s musical fantasy TV movie series Descendants makes its Top 50 debut. Descendants 3 is the first soundtrack from the series to hit the ARIA Top 50. Descendants and Descendant 2 were released in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
