Punk heroes Amyl and The Sniffers debut at #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week with their third album, Cartoon Darkness, while Rosé holds the #1 single alongside Bruno Mars with APT.
Amyl’s self-titled debut reached #22 in 2019, while Comfort To Me peaked at #2 in 2021. The four-piece have won three ARIA Awards, including Best Group in 2022.
Tyler, The Creator takes the top spot for the first time with Chromakopia. Released last Monday rather than the usual release date of a Friday, it’s his seventh studio album and is narrated by his mother, Bonita Smith. It follows three top 10 berths: Flower Boy got to #8 in 2017, Igor reached #3 in 2019 and Call Me If You Get Lost peaked at #2 in 2021.
The lead single from Tyler’s new album, Noid, debuts at #13; he also lands another four tracks in the top 50. His highest charting single here so far is Earfquake with Playboy Carti, which reached #9 in 2019.
Aussie pop band Sheppard re-enter at #10 with their fourth studio album, Zora. It peaked at #8 earlier this year, becoming their fourth top 10 album in a row.
The 20th anniversary edition of Green Day’s American Idiot arrives at #12. Their seventh studio album, American Idiot spent two weeks at #1 in 2004 and went on to become a Broadway musical. Their most recent album, Saviours, peaked at #2 in January this year.
Still in anniversary land, the 30th anniversary version of Powderfinger’s first album, Parables For Wooden Ears, enters at #36. It peaked at #51 in 1994. They went on to score six #1 albums – from Internationalist in 1998 to Sunsets Farewell Tour in 2010 – and have collected a total of 18 ARIA Awards.
Rounding out the week, Rosé and Bruno Mars’ APT. spends a second week at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, marking the first time that a Korean solo artist or group has spent more than a week in the top spot since PSY’s Gangnam Style in 2012. Bruno also holds at #4 with his Lady Gaga duet, Die With A Smile.
