5 Seconds of Summer’s bassist Calum Hood lands at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week with his debut solo album: ORDER Chaos ORDER; while Mount Druitt’s, ONEFOUR take #2.
5SOS has won six ARIA Awards and all five of their studio albums have gone to #1: 5 Seconds of Summer in 2014, Sounds Good Feels Good in 2015, Youngblood in 2018, Calm in 2020 and 5SOS5 in 2022.
ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “Three Aussie debuts in the Top 5 is an absolutely massive result. Congratulations to ONEFOUR and King Gizz, but particularly to our new #1 Calum and his team for delivering a breakthrough hit album and proving that new Australian music absolutely can cut through.”
Following close behind Calum are ONEFOUR, with their first full-length album, Look At Me Now. Regarded as one of the pioneers of Australian drill music, the four-member group reached #7 in 2020 with their EP Against All Odds.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are new at #5 with Phantom Island. Since 2010, the ARIA Award-winning band have released 27 studio albums, 56 live albums, four compilation albums, one remix album and three EPs.
They have now scored 19 top 10 albums, five of which peaked at #2: Flying Microtonal Banana in 2017, Infest The Rats’ Nest in 2019, Chunky Shrapnel in 2020, Butterfly 3000 in 2021 and PetroDragonic Apocalypse; Or, Dawn Of Eternal Night: An Annihilation Of Planet Earth And The Beginning Of Merciless Damnation in 2023.
On the Singles Chart, Alex Warren’s Ordinary holds at #1 for the 13th straight week, making it the equal fifth longest running #1 in chart history. Five other songs have also spent 13 weeks on top: Dinah Shore’s Buttons and Bows in 1949, The Beatles’ Hey Jude in 1968, Coolio featuring L.V.’s Gangsta’s Paradise in 1995-96, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber’s Despacito in 2017 and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road in 2019.
Earlier this week Alex confirmed his long-rumoured collaboration with Rosé, On My Mind, which will be included on chapter two of his debut album You’ll Be Alright, Kid, arriving 18 July.
The record for the most #1 hits in the shortest period since the ARIA charts were launched in 1983 is held by Delta Goodrem. During 2002-03, she racked up five chart-toppers in 12 months and 20 days: Born To Try, Lost Without You, Innocent Eyes, Not Me Not I and Predictable.
