Moves for Blanco Brown, Sam Smith, Ali Gatie and more!
‘Dance Monkey’ by Tones And I hits #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart in its eighth week. It has been a meteoric rise for Tones And I (aka Toni Watson), who has gone from busking in Byron Bay to the top of the charts in a matter of months.
‘Dance Monkey’, her second single and first #1, is up from #3 last week. She first appeared on the ARIA Singles Chart on 20 May this year when she debuted at #40 with ‘Johnny Run Away’. This week, that track sits at #14, while third single, ‘Never Seen The Rain’, has moved up to #32.
‘Dance Monkey’ is the first Australian single to top the ARIA Singles Chart in 2019. It is the first Australian #1 single since Dean Lewis’ ‘Be Alright’ (#1 Aug. ’18) and the first #1 single by an Australian female solo artist since Delta Goodrem's 'Wings' (#1 Aug. ’15). ‘Dance Monkey’ is the 23rd #1 single by an Australian artist in the 2010s.
As it hits its seventh week in the Top 50, ‘The Git Up’ by Blanco Brown moves up one spot to #10 to crack the Top Ten for the first time. It’s already made the Top Ten in Canada and New Zealand, as well as topping Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in the US.
After debuting at #14 last week, Sam Smith’s ‘How Do You Sleep?’ moves up three spots to #11. The track was the most added to Australian radio last week.
Clocking up its sixth week in the chart, ‘It’s You’ by Canadian rapper Ali Gatie moves up four spots to score a new peak at #15. It spent one week at #1 in Malaysia in June.
Four weeks into its chart run, ‘Lalala’ by Y2k & bbno$ jumps nine places to land at #16, its highest peak.
Marshmello’s collaboration with Kane Brown, ‘One Thing Right’, has rocketed up ten spots to #18 in its fifth week in the Top 50.
This week’s Singles Chart also includes new peaks for Tones And I’s ‘Never Seen The Rain’ (#32), Illy’s ‘Then What’ (#33), Jessica Mauboy’s ‘Little Things’ (#40) and Andy Grammer’s ‘Don’t Give Up On Me’ (#49).
