Debuts for Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga and more!
After dropping to #2 for a week, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’ returns to the top spot to claim its record-breaking fourteenth week at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The track overtakes Coolio’s ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ (#1 Oct. ’95) as the longest-running #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart (the ARIA Charts era covers July 1983 to present).
In its fifth week in the top 50, ‘Symphony’ continues its steady climb up the chart, moving a further three spots to #6.
Dean Lewis’ ‘Waves’ continues its move up the chart, this week moving to just outside of the top 20 at #21.
There are also new peaks this week for Jason Derulo’s ‘Swalla’ (up four to #25), Kyle’s ‘iSpy’ (up six to #36).
Debuts:
#16: Kendrick Lamar ‘DNA.’ – The first of three debuts on the ARIA Singles Chart this week for American rapper Kendrick Lamar. All three debuts come from Lamar’s new album Damn. (#2 this week). ‘DNA.’ includes samples of criticism of Lamar by several Fox News commentators, as well as a sample of the Rick James track ‘Mary Jane’.
#17: Lady Gaga ‘The Cure’ – Lady Gaga releases her first single of 2017, ‘The Cure’. The track was unveiled by the singer-songwriter during her Saturday night headlining set during the weekend of the Coachella festival. Gaga scored two chart entries in 2016: ‘Perfect Illusion’ (#14 Sept. ’16) and ‘Million Reasons’ (#34 Dec. ’16).
#20: Kendrick Lamar Feat. Rihanna ‘Loyalty.’ – Kendrick Lamar’s second new entry for the week. Featuring a guest vocal by Rihanna, ‘Loyalty.’ includes samples of tracks by Bruno Mars, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Jay-Z.
#29: Kendrick Lamar ‘Love.’ – The final new entry for the week from Kendrick Lamar’s #2 album Damn.. ‘Love.’ features German rapper Zacari and American artist Kid Capri.
#31: G-Eazy & Kehlani ‘Good Life’ – American artists G-Eazy and Kehlani team up for ‘Good Life’. The track is the first to chart locally from The Fate Of The Furious: The Album (new at #13 this week). It’s G-Eazy’s second chart entry as lead artist, following ‘Me, Myself & I’ (#19 Feb. ’16). It’s Kehlani’s first entry as lead artist.
