Greatest Showman hits seven weeks at #1

Debuts for Black Panther, The Wombats, Hockey Dad and more!

The Greatest Showman soundtrack notches up its seventh consecutive week at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Aside from eight debuts, the biggest story on this week’s chart is the self-titled album from British artist Dua Lipa. As the single ‘IDGAF’ jumps to #9 and becomes her third top ten hit, the album has moved back up six spots to hit #33.

Debuts:

#2: Soundtrack ‘Black Panther: The Album’ – The Kendrick Lamar-curated Black Panther: The Album becomes this week’s highest debut on the Albums Chart. The soundtrack to the Marvel film Black Panther features contributions from Lamar, as well as 2 Chainz, Khalid, Vince Staples, Anderson Paak, James Blake and more. Two tracks from the album have already charted: Lamar and SZA’s ‘All The Stars’ (#5 Feb. ’18) and Lamar and The Weeknd’s ‘Pray For Me’ (#12 Feb. ’18).

#4: Soundtrack ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ – The soundtrack to third and final film in the Fifty Shades series becomes the film series’ third album to chart in the top ten. Fifty Shades Freed follows on from Fifty Shades Of Grey (#1 Feb. ’15) and Fifty Shades Darker (#1 Feb. ’17). It features the Liam Payne and Rita Ora single ‘For You (Fifty Shades Freed)’ (#18 Feb. ’18) as well as tracks by Sia, Ellie Goulding, Hailee Steinfeld, Julia Michaels and more.

#5: The Wombats ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’ – The Wombats score their third top ten entry with Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life. It’s the British trio’s fourth album and comes three years on from Glitterbug (#2 Apr. ’15). The Wombats also hit the top ten with The Wombats Proudly Present... This Modern Glitch (#2 May ’11).

#6: Hockey Dad ‘Blend Inn’ – Wollongong surf rock band Hockey Dad makes their top 50 debut with Blend Inn. Following on from 2016’s Boronia, it’s the duo’s second album and was recorded in Seattle. Blend Inn’s lead single ‘Homely Feeling’ landed at #54 in the recent Triple J Hottest 100.

#16: Adam Eckersley & Brooke McClymont ‘Adam & Brooke’ – Country singer-songwriters Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont team up for their first album as a duo. Adam & Brooke gives Eckersley his first top 50 appearance. It’s McClymont’s sixth top 50 entry and comes a year on from The McClymonts’ Endless (#3 Jan. ’17).

#28: Franz Ferdinand ‘Always Ascending’ – Scots Franz Ferdinand return with fifth album Always Ascending. It’s the now-quintet’s first studio album since Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action (#18 Sept. ’13). In between, they collaborated with Sparks for the 2015 album FFS.

#31: MGMT ‘Little Dark Age’ – MGMT release their first album in five years Little Dark Age. The American duo’s fourth album comes five years on from their self-titled third (#31 Sept. ’13). October 2017 marked a decade since the release of MGMT’s debut Oracular Spectacular (#6 Oct. ’08).

#34: Celtic Woman ‘Voices Of Angels’ – Irish ensemble Celtic Woman collect their second top 50 entry on the ARIA Albums Chart with Voices Of Angels. The album’s debut comes on the back of a national tour. They first charted with Songs From The Heart (#48 Jul. ’10).
