Taylor vs Taylor for longest-running #1 of 2023

Bublé bounces while Gabriel gets back on the chart

Taylor vs Taylor for longest-running #1 of 2023

Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) becomes the second longest-running #1 album of 2023 this week, clocking its sixth straight week at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart and running just behind Taylor’s Midnights, which was on top for seven non-consecutive weeks this year (and seven in 2022).

Michael Bublé’s December chart run continues, with Christmas flying from #45 to #5. Released 12 years ago, it hit #1 in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2019. Last Christmas it stalled at #2.

P!nk’s Trustfall bounce back onto the albums chart at #12 after hitting #1 for one week in February this year.  The return of her ninth studio album – and seventh #1 here – is fuelled by the release of a deluxe edition with three additional songs, including Dreaming, a new collaboration with Marshmello and Sting, as well as six live recordings.

Peter Gabriel is new at #20 with i/o. Co-produced by Brian Eno, it is the British legend’s first album of original material since New Blood, which peaked here at #64 in 2011. Production of the new album started in 2000. He has scored two top albums in Australia: So, which went to #5 in 1986, and Us, which reached #3 in 1992.

It’s four weeks on top of the Singles Chart for Jack Harlow’s Lovin On Me, while Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You surges from #15 to #2, ready to reclaim the top spot, where it has landed for the past five consecutive Christmas seasons.

Two other Christmas favourites whip back into the top 10, with Wham!’s 1984 hit Last Christmas up from #30 to #6 and Brenda Lee’s 1958 classic Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree up from #42 to #8. Both have peaked before at #2 and are aiming for the top this year.

Taylor Swift is back on the Singles Chart (not that she ever went away) with You’re Losing Me (From The Vault) debuting at #13. It was released to celebrate her title as the most-streamed act of the year on both Spotify and Apple Music. You're Losing Me was originally recorded in 2021 for inclusion on Midnights, but was instead released as a vinyl-only exclusive.
