2020 ARIA Awards Album Of The Year nominees

The nominees for the 2020 ARIA Award for Album Of The Year are a diverse group, with representation from pop, hip hop and rock. Records from three groups have made the cut alongside two solo artists. Here's a breakdown of this year's contenders. 

DMA'S - THE GLOW

Sydney's DMA'S score their first nomination in the Album Of The Year category for THE GLOW, which debuted at #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart in July, their highest position to date. The band is in the running for five awards this year, adding to the three nominations they received in 2018 for their album For Now.

Jessica Mauboy - Hilda 

Jessica Mauboy is no stranger to the ARIA Awards, having won twice from 25 previous nominations. She was awarded Highest Selling Single in 2009 for 'Running Back', and won Best Female Artist in 2013. Her #1 album Hilda earns her a second nod for Album Of The Year, the first being for Beautiful in 2014. In addition to this category, Hilda is nominated for Best Cover Art and Best Producer.

Lime Cordiale - 14 Steps To A Better You

Lime Cordiale leads the 2020 ARIA Awards field with eight nominations, including an Album Of The Year nod for 14 Steps To A Better YouThe Sydney duo's second studio album became their first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, arriving three years on from their debut, Permanent Vacation.

Sampa The Great - The Return

Last year's winner for Best Hip Hop Release, Sampa The Great has received six nominations in 2020, including her first Album Of The Year nod for The Return. The record peaked at #12 on the ARIA Albums Chart and was awarded the Australian Music Prize, making her the first artist to win the honour twice, following her mixtape Birds And The Bee9 in 2017.

Tame Impala - The Slow Rush

The Slow Rush has earned Tame Impala seven ARIAs nominations in 2020, the second most of any artist this year. This is the fourth time they've been nominated for Album Of The Year, making it one for each of their studio releases. They won the honour in 2013 for Lonerism and in 2015 for Currents. All told, Kevin Parker and his band have scored eight ARIA Awards from 20 previous nominations.
